very special day today and unfortunately I'm out of town for it. #1 will know what I'm talking about. Today's reviewed wine, the 2006 Standing Stone Vineyards Riesling, is from a region that, quite honestly, I knew nothing about when I had the opportunity to try this wine. Man have I been missing out. Not only on wines from this region, the Finger Lakes Region of New York, but this grape as well. #1 and I popped the cork on this one recently and poured a couple of glasses for tasting and enjoyment. Not expecting much I was shocked how good this was! An off-dry Riesling, this one had a very "clean, mineral" nose, which both of us normally like. On the tongue we noted peaches and pears and more of the clean, mineral taste that was picked up on the nose. A nice finish based on excellent acidity and balance. Don't let the off-dry comment scare you off as this is far from a typical "dry" wine and is loaded with flavor. This one retails for about $13.99 at the vineyard so look for it around that price. We gave it 4 Corkscrews based on excellent taste and affordability. If you like good, clean tasting wine, overflowing with flavor, pick up a bottle of this as you won't be disappointed. Sit Long, Talk Much, Laugh Often, Drink Standing Stone Riesling!
