During my last marathon stay at Dallas/Ft. Worth Airport, that I wrote about a couple of weeks ago, I had plenty of opportunity to scour the airport for reading material. I happened across a discarded Dallas Morning News and was pleased to see a section regarding winners in the Dallas Morning News Wine Competition. I wanted to talk about one particular article that highlighted 6 Gold Medal Winners under $12/bottle. Some I've had and totally disagree with, while others I've yet to try but will seek out and see if my review agrees with their gold medal status. The wines they listed where:

1. Blackstone, California, Pinot Grigio 2005

2. Altivo, Mendoza, Malbec 2005

3. Bogle Vineyards, California, Chenin Blanc 2005

4. Korbel, California, Methode Champenoise Blanc de
Noirs non-vintage

5. Oak Grove, California, Reserve Viognier 2005

6. Rosemount, Southeastern Australia,
Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

I've tried the Bogle and Blackstone and can't see how they received gold medals but as they say, different strokes for different folks. I'm going to try and find the others for review in the next few weeks. Let me know if you've tried any of these and if you agree or disagree with their gold medal status. Sit Long, Talk Much, Laugh Often, Drink Wine!
